Documentation Chapter 04

Offline Library

Read books, reference material and maps without internet.

4.1Read your library

  1. Open the library.

    Choose the library in Howland.

  2. Choose an installed archive.

Open an archive to browse or search it.

  3. Keep its storage connected.

Keep the archive’s drive connected to the main computer, and Howland open there.

4.2Maps and reference material

Choose the map in Howland. Map data must already be on your main computer.

Offline content does not update without internet.

4.3Add an archive

Howland reads Kiwix .zim files. Place complete archives in the library folder on your main computer, or in a connected drive's Howland/library folder.

Then close Howland and open it again. Howland skips incomplete or invalid archives.

4.4Before you go offline

  1. Finish the downloads.

Check that the models, archives and maps you plan to use are present.

  2. Open the material you need.

Try a model, a book and a map from the device you will use.

  3. Keep the local network available.

Your devices still need to reach your main computer, and it still needs power.

Check

Your chosen content opens without internet. Online search and cloud providers still need internet.
