Documentation Chapter 05
Docker
Run Howland on a machine with no screen.
5.1Run Howland in Docker
The image does not include the models; install them in 5.2.
docker run -d --name howland \
-p 127.0.0.1:31050-31053:31050-31053 \
-v howland-data:/data \
ayerselectronics/howland:1.0.0
Open http://localhost:31052 in a browser on the Docker host.
5.2Install the models
Check free disk space first.
docker exec howland howland-setup install --yes
Howland responds in the browser and finds its models.
5.3Allow other devices to connect
The loopback binding above limits access to the Docker host. To serve your local network, replace
127.0.0.1 with the host's trusted LAN address and recreate the container using the same
data volume.
Use host firewall rules to limit access to the intended network. Do not forward these ports to the public internet.
5.4Operate and inspect
docker logs howland
docker stop howland
docker start howland
Keep the howland-data volume when replacing the container, and back it up before upgrading.
For a computer with a desktop, see Installation.
