Connecting Devices

Use Howland from another computer, phone or tablet.

3.1Before you start

Open Howland on your main computer and leave it open. Connect your other device to the same home network. For use elsewhere, see Remote Access.

3.2Connect a computer

  1. Install Howland.

    Choose your computer’s download from Downloads.

  2. Choose Connect to Howland on another computer.
  3. Scan the code, or type the address.

    Use the code or address that Howland shows on your main computer.

Check

The computer shows your conversations and can use your main computer’s models.

3.3Phones and tablets

  1. Install Howland on your phone.

    Get it from the App Store or Google Play on Downloads.

  2. Open Howland on your main computer.

    Leave it open.

  3. Scan the code, or type the address.

    Use the code or address that Howland shows on your computer.

3.4Keep it private

Pair only devices you own. Do not share the code or the address.

3.5If it does not connect

  • The code will not scan: check that Howland is open on the main computer, then type the address instead.
  • The phone says to open Howland: open Howland on your main computer and leave it open.
  • The address changed: reopen Howland on the main computer and pair again with the code or address it shows now.
  • Still not connecting: check that both devices are on the same home network.
